“There’s this moment of understanding in any situation that was never meant to last, when it turns a little hollow and you can suddenly feel this inescapable wrongness. For me, that’s usually accompanied by a feeling of resistance - don’t let it fly away, not yet. It’s led to me holding on too long in all sorts of relationships. But once something is over, I find closure in firm endings. I think that’s why it feels so scary to let go initially, even when things have become dysfunctional. When I say goodbye, it’s bye forever. So I’m gonna hold on a little too long, first.
The title of my album is inspired by a quote by David Foster Wallace - ‘Everything I’ve ever let go of has claw marks on it.’ This project is the story of a year in my life when I had to learn to let go of some of the people and ideas that I cared about the most.”
